The Burlington Northern Sante Fe (Manitoba) Railway is a short line existing entirely within Winnipeg's city limits. BNSF's home is just north of Taylor Street. They have a two-stall engine house, with one engine and one caboose. They serve several industries in Winnipeg:
They interchange with CN at their Fort Rouge Yard, and with CP near their yard south of Logan Avenue. It began as the Midland Railway of Manitoba, incorporated in 1903. It became part of the Great Northern Railway in 1909. It acquired its current name after the Great Northern's merger with Burlington Northern, and Burlington Northern's merger with Santa Fe to become BNSF. BNSF's sole engine was BNSF high-hood GP9 #1685 for a long time. In 2009 it was replaced by BNSF 2743, and in late September 2009 that was replaced by BNSF 2886.
