CN in New Brunswick

Canadian National (CN) continues to operate in New Brunswick, although it mostly exists as the main line between Montreal, Quebec and Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a branch line down to Saint John. Moncton is the major center for CN in New Brunswick.

CN operates five subdivisions in New Brunswick:

CN has abandoned a number of subdivisions over the years, including the Bartibog Subdivision.


Yards

CN has two major New Brunswick yards, the Gordon Yard in Moncton and the Island Yard in Saint John. Beginning in 2002, CN leased Saint John's Island Yard to the NB Southern Railway and all local switching in Saint John is done by NB Southern.


Trains

CN operates several long-distance trains that run through New Brunswick and several locals. The long-distance trains are:

  • CN 120/121 between Toronto, ON and Halifax, NS
  • CN 305 between Moncton, NB and Toronto, ON
  • CN 308 between Toronto, ON and Moncton, NB
  • CN 405/406 between Moncton, NB and Saint John, NB
  • CN 407/408 between Moncton, NB and Dartmouth, NS
