As a wartime timetable, it includes messages such as the lead photo, “MAIN LINE of Defence”

Slabs of copper to make cartridge cases, steel for shells and guns, aluminum billets for airplane sections, lumber for army camps – twenty-four hours a day the trains of the Grand Trunk – Canadian National System are busy bringing together these and a thousand other materials essential for National Defence. From mine, forest and farm, the carloads roll to mill and factory, to assembly plant and warehouse, to magazine, camp and port.

To meet the new demands for transportation service the Grand Trunk-Canadian National has provided more cars, more heavy engines. Yards have been enlarged, passing tracks lengthened, shops and signals improved.

Today shippers and receivers can look to the Grand Trunk-Canadian National with full confidence in its ability to supply the transportation service which is vital to National Defence.
