Well Met at Diamond

From sixteen years ago, July 2, 2010

I went to Portage la Prairie on Friday and saw a couple of trains on the way.

The first was the most interesting, another CP train on the Glenboro subdivision. I last saw one on January 30.

This one had SD9043 #9129 on the head end and CP 6014 trailing.

When I arrived in Portage, I heard a CN train announcing their passage through the town, so I headed to East Tower to get the shot. CN 2666 and 2689 brought a long container train east.

CN 2666 is an old friend. I saw it a few times in Saint John in 2006, and in February 2010 before this post.

  1. My father liked CP’s 9100 series SD90s. We managed to pace a pair of one convertible 9300 series units of that model along Highway 16. At Strathclair the train switched out cars at the grain elevator and my father was invited into the cab. To show how long ago this was, maybe 25 years ago, I am not sure if the digital files are good. CP engineers I talked to said they were great for a straight run but slow loading for switching.
