Luck of the Irish?
I don’t know why I titled this post “Luck of the Irish”. These photos were taken in the night of April 4-5, 2025, which was definitely not St. Patrick’s Day. And I’m not Irish.

It was time to grab my camera and tripod and hit the road. The aurora was calling… and I had to answer.
Manitoba may have lots of fertile soil, but we also have lots of clay. It gets stuck on the bottoms of your shoes and you feel like you’re a foot taller.
I was just going out to photograph some stars, but the aurora borealis decided to put on a great show. It was a great first night shooting with a new-to-me wide angle lens.
After seeing STEVE – and the rest of the aurora borealis – and the Milky Way – I still felt great, even at 1:30 AM. I decided to fulfill a long-held wish – photograph the Oberon grain elevator at night.
As I get older, my sleep is less regular and more interrupted. I hear that’s pretty normal for us “old folks” but it’s a bit frustrating.
