Product of Italy, Made in Canada is a collection of essays / stories exploring what it means to be an Italian-Canadian. The main themes are resilience, gratitude and the love of family.
The author, Rosanna Battigelli, was born in a small town in southern Italy and her family moved to Sudbury, Ontario to find work when she was three. Life wasn’t always easy in Canada but they made it work.
I found it very interesting to see Canadian life through her lens, as I am a third generation Canadian, born and raised here (mostly).
Family means a lot to the author, and many of the stories involve her parents and grandparents. I found these to be the most interesting and the author really made her parents real to me. You can feel the love and respect.
